Movers Catch Child Molester

Most movers hate criminals and they will do something about it like these guys did in Texas.

Movers Help Catch A Child Molester

Most moving companies are honest, ethical and law abiding.

Yes, there are some out there that just don’t care and are scammers and thieves. These companies will hire the most unsavory people they can. You have heard of the adage “birds of a feather flock together.”

But as I said previously most movers are law abiding and they hate the moving scammers and bad movers with a passion. I know I do.

And because of this, they will ensure that those around them are law abiding citizens and employees. Below is just a story that warms my heart. It is about a bunch of movers that were given some stuff from someone they moved and they found that this guy was a child molester, so they did what any good person would do and reported that person to the police.

Ray reportedly agreed to voluntarily come to police headquarters for questioning. They said he confessed to being the man on the video. The incident allegedly happened in December 2005.

Alligators In Michigan

Don’t think that alligators live in Michigan? Then you need to read this.

Michigan man comes across alligator in corn field

BURR OAK, Mich. — A Burr Oak man simply wanted to gather some sweet corn for the family freezer.

He didn’t expect to have to deal with an alligator rushing at him.

Jeff Adamski was in a corn field on a recent evening when two women came running from a few rows over, screaming that they had seen an alligator.

He checked it out and sure enough, there it was.

Adamski tells the Sturgis Journal he “backed away,” and the gator “darted at me.” He then backed up faster, and the animal kept coming.

That’s when Adamski says he decided to deal with the problem, considering what an alligator could do to a child if he let it go.

The newspaper reports Adamski grabbed a 4-foot bar out of his truck and killed the alligator.

Burr Oak is about 80 miles south of Grand Rapids.

42 from Enbridge Michigan oil spill site suspected of illegal immigration

WASHINGTON - A Texas television station reported Wednesday that 42 people hired to help clean up the Kalamazoo River oil spill were arrested on suspicion of being illegal immigrants.

The report, from KBTV (Fox 4) in Beaumont, comes two days after word that Hallmark Industrial of Texas was let go at the spill site near Marshall, following news reports that the subcontractor might have hired illegal immigrants.

Garner Environmental Services - the main contractor hired by Enbridge Energy Partners to clean up the 820,000 gallons of crude that flowed into Talmadge Creek then into beginning late last month - fired Hallmark, according to a spokeswoman at Enbridge.

The media report from Texas said a tip about two buses charted by the owner of Hallmark Industrial, Phillip Hallmark, led to arrests in Winnie, east of Houston in southeastern Texas.

Investigators told the station that Hallmark had hired the men on the buses to help with the cleanup of the Michigan spill. Immigration authorities apparently took the people to a holding facility in Houston.

A call to the sheriff’s department in Chambers County, Texas, to confirm the report was not immediately returned.

U.S. Rep. Mark Schauer of Battle Creek - whose district includes the site of the spill - already had raised questions about the alleged use of undocumented workers for the cleanup after a story by the Michigan Messenger appeared Monday.

Late Wednesday, he again linked the workers to Enbridge, even though the company has said it requires its contractors and subcontractors to meet all local and state labor laws and that the workers had the necessary documents.

“Enbridge needs to live up to the commitment it made to our community, be a good neighbor and start hiring qualified Michigan workers to clean up the spill,” said Schauer, a Democrat.

“Our community asked the EPA and Enbridge to use local labor and the fact that Enbridge allowed one of its contractors to hire illegal immigrants is appalling,” he said.

The Fed Takes Bold Step To Curb Slowing Economy

So the Fed is going to buy up more government debt to help curb the “slowing” economy…But I thought Obama said our economy was improving?

Fed, Citing Slowdown, to Buy U.S. Debt

nytimes

WASHINGTON — Acknowledging that the recovery has slowed, the Federal Reserve on Tuesday announced that it would use the proceeds from its huge mortgage-bond portfolio to buy long-term Treasury securities.

By buying government debt, the Fed is taking an unmistakable step to maintain the large amount of money that it pumped into the economy, starting in 2007, to prop up the financial and housing markets.

The Fed bought $1.25 trillion in mortgage-backed securities, and another $200 billion in debts owed by government-sponsored enterprises, primarily Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and completed the purchases in March. The Fed had planned to allow the size of that portfolio to shrink gradually over time as the debts matured or were prepaid. Instead, the Fed will reinvest the principal payments in longer-term Treasury securities.

The central bank said it would continue to roll over its holdings of other Treasury securities as they mature.

In its announcement, the Fed also left unchanged its benchmark short-term interest rate — the federal funds rate, the rate at which banks borrow from each other overnight — at zero to 0.25 percent, the level it has been at since December 2008.

In a new qualification to its previous statements, the committee said it still expected a “gradual return” to normal economic conditions, “although the pace of economic recovery is likely to be more modest in the near term than had been anticipated.”

On Wall Street, shares regained some lost ground after the announcement.

Bruce McCain, the chief investment strategist at Key Private Bank, said Fed “steered the middle ground,” with the decision, while acknowledging the weakness that the market has been seeing in the economy.

“The fact that they committed to reinvesting was a little bit more than some had been looking for,” Mr. McCain said, “but at the same time it basically holds constant the size of their balance sheet.”

“Given the uncertainty, hopefully the middle ground calms nerves and keeps people confident enough to go ahead and spend the money that they have in productive ways,” he said, adding that the position suggests that the Fed does not expect an “enormous wave of economic weakness.”

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which runs the trading desk through which the Fed conducts open market operations, was expected to issue details on the transactions later in the afternoon on Tuesday.

At its last meeting, in June, the committee downgraded its outlook and openly discussed the prospect of deflation — a declining spiral of demand, prices and wages — but cautioned that it was only likely to act if the situation took a serious turn for the worse.

Since that meeting, the Fed chairman, Ben S. Bernanke, and other Fed officials, had used cautious language in describing the state of the economy and the likelihood of new action by the central bank. In testimony before Congress last month, and at a speech in Charleston, S.C., last week, Mr. Bernanke said the economic recovery was continuing.

The Federal Open Market Committee’s vote on Tuesday was 9 to 1. The dissenter was Thomas M. Hoenig, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Mr. Hoenig has dissented frequently since the start of the year, asserting that the Fed’s stated policy of maintaining an “exceptionally low” level of the fed funds rate for an “extended period” was “no longer warranted.”

He dissented again on Tuesday, both on the extended-period language and on the decision to reinvest the mortgage-bond proceeds.

“Given economic and financial conditions, Mr. Hoenig did not believe that keeping constant the size of the Federal Reserve’s holdings of longer-term securities at their current level was required to support a return to the committee’s policy objectives,” the Fed said in a statement.

Ka-Blewy! Moving Truck Explodes.

It is against the law for movers to haul anything flammable unless they have the proper certification (and I’d say 99% don’t). Why? Read this article and find out.

Gas can blows top off moving van in Ore.

by Associated Press

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) — Medford Fire Department officials say an exploding gasoline container blew the top off a moving van in the southeast part of the city.

The Mail Tribune reports that no one was injured in the Sunday morning blast and that a fire in the van was quickly contained. Battalion Chief Erin Sawall says a gas container being carried in the rear of the van was the cause.

Sawall says the van was being driven by a family moving from California to McMinnville.

U-Save Moving B+ Grade

The BBB just gave us a grade…Yes folks even the BBB thinks that U-Save Moving and Storage is a great moving company.

U-Save Moving And Storage Graded “B+” With BBB.

Many of you know from reading this website that I have a “love/hate” relationship with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). You can read my articles as to why that is for yourself. This about U-Save Moving and Storage’s “B+” grade with the BBB.

That’s right folks…we have a B+ grade with the BBB. Not too shabby.

How come we don’t have an “A” you ask? Hahaha…very good question. And the answer is very simple.

We don’t have an “A” simply because we are not card carrying members of the BBB. Yep, that’s right. The only reason U-Save Moving and Storage doesn’t have an “A” grade with the BBB is only because we have not paid hundreds of dollars to be an “accredited member” of the BBB.

So now you know that even the BBB thinks that U-Save Moving and Storage is a great moving company.

If and when we decide to pay for membership in the BBB our grade will raise to an “A”. But until then you’ll just have to settle with our ABOVE average “B+” grade.

Craigslist Mover Scams

While most movers that advertise on Craigslist are good and reputable movers, there are those few movers that exploit this medium. So this article will help you so you can figure who these few are.

What is a Craigslist Mover Scam?

There are three major moving scams out there. One of the most prevalent is the “Craigslist Mover Scam.” So what is the Craigslist mover scam? Simply it is when a “moving company” (I use that term loosely) places a free ad on Craigslist saying that they will move you for a very low-ball price and they are not even a legal company, and ultimately you get scammed by having to pay a larger than expected prices for the move, or your stuff is damaged; or even stolen. And there is not a whole hell’ve a lot you can do about it.

In our day and age the internet is king. Gone are the days when we would go to the Yellowpages, or some other phone book, and look for companies and call around to see the right fit for you. You knew if they were in the Yellowpages then they were a legitimate company. Now everyone goes to the internet. And one of the biggest places people look to for services is Craigslist.

There are many good moving companies that advertise their services on Craigslist. This is not to scare you away from using this service. Indeed, it is only to inform you that Craigslist is a hotbed for rogue movers whose intention is to defraud you.  I have written a great article that informs you about the 10 very important moving company questions to ask. I would suggest you read that article and I also suggest you go to  “Protect Your Move.”

So if you use Craigslist to find a moving company for your move I suggest that you look for these things:

  1. Do they have a website or blog?
  2. Are they in the Yellowpages?
  3. Are they in the BBB?
  4. If they are not an accredited BBB member, do they at least have a profile?
  5. Are they members of any formal clubs like Chamber of Commerce, etc?
  6. Do they have a DOT and MC numbers listed in their ads?
  7. When you call them, do they answer with their company name or just hello (or somehting like that?)
  8. Have you even heard of them before?
  9. Do they have low ball prices?

These are just some of the more important things to look for when searching on Craigslist for a moving company. If maybe one or two of these are omitted that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are scam, but if they are missing a majority or all of them then DO NOT USE THAT COMPANY!

Just Say No To Mosques!?

So what your take on Muslims attempting to build new mosques around the country. I say “no” to a new mosque near Ground Zero in New York, but I am not opposed to others being built…What say you?

Amplifyd from news.yahoo.com

Anti-mosque protests on the rise, say Muslim advocates

Opposition to the construction of mosques has skyrocketed in cities and towns across the country, scholars and advocates of Muslim culture tell The Upshot.

Public protests against three planned mosques have made news in the past week: Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin joined others in opposing the building of a mosque a few blocks from the World Trade Center site. Hundreds demonstrated against a proposed mosque in a small town in Tennessee (pictured above). And some residents of Temecula, California, are opposing the local Muslim community’s plan to build a bigger mosque, saying it could become a hotbed of radical Islam.

Professor Akbar Ahmed, the Ibn Khaldun Chair of Islamic Studies at American University’s School of International Service, is not surprised by the recent spate of public protests. He spent last year traveling to more than 100 mosques in 75 U.S. cities with a team of researchers, and concluded that opposition to mosques, including some attacks on them, is on the rise.

“Everywhere there’s a mosque, there’s a tension now,” Ahmed says.

Ahmed believes most Americans have little idea what goes on inside the approximately 2,000 mosques in the country, which leads to fear and anti-Muslim sentiment. Comments from public figures like Sarah Palin exacerbate the problem, he says.

Palin posted Sunday on Twitter that a planned mosque near the World Trade Center site would “stab hearts.” She joined a PAC and family members of some 9-11 victims in vocally objecting to the religious center. “Peace-seeking Muslims, pls understand, Ground Zero mosque is UNNECESSARY provocation; it stabs hearts. Pls reject it in interest of healing,” she wrote. (In addition to the mosque, the 13-story, $100 million project would include a swimming pool, gym, and performance space open to everyone, reports ABC News.)

[No churches in Saudi Arabia? Then no mosques near Ground Zero, Gingrich says]

“Sarah Palin’s comments again were saying implicitly that mosques are associated with violence and terrorism,” Ahmed says, though he adds that he thinks the tension over this proposed mosque is unique due to the “raw wounds” of the 9/11 attacks. “At the highest level, even in America, we have a [former] vice presidential candidate, she can openly make a statement like this.”

Palin defended her statements in a post on Facebook, saying that she is all for religious freedom and tolerance, but that not building the mosque near Ground Zero is an issue of “common moral sense.”

Jim Zogby, the head of the Arab-American Institute, a nonprofit research group, said there are not enough people in public life defending American Muslims’ right to worship.

“There is very little counter-thrust in the public debate, and the result is, I think, Muslims are becoming increasingly concerned about their security in the country,”  Zogby says. “This is a worrisome environment. Something’s got to give.”

The Best Battle Creek Movers

The Best Battle Creek Movers Ever!

So about a week ago Irv Krick from East Leroy calls me up. He wants to know if we would be available and how much it would cost him to hire the best Battle Creek movers in Michigan (okay, so I added that last part.) Of course I give him our availability and our moving rates. And he hires us to help him out.

Apparently, he had a whole bunch of friends that said that they would help him move, but had to back out at the last minute. I can’t tell you how often this happens to our customers.

This is a simple (or was supposed to be) a labor only job, because they already had a moving truck rented with U-Haul. So all we had to do was load and unload it. The job ended up being over 12 hours long, and we had to make 2 trips with a 26 ft moving truck fully loaded each time…and we still couldn’t get everything.
